Cool Weather Lace

I like surprises – I think of them as plot twists, which I like a whole lot, too. Looks with lace for the chillier months tend to catch my eye this time of year. They fall under that same “unexpected” genre, and I think I’m probably drawn to them for the very same reason.

This dress, in just my kind of deeply hued plum, falls 19 1/2″ from the waist, which is at the knee on almost 5′ me.

A more subtle rendition, with just a touch along the sleeve.

All the details around the neckline on this blouse draw the eye up, which is a great styling strategy for a petite frame. I’d wear the velvet tie open or closed – I think it’s beautiful both ways.

The gorgeous taupe color on this blouse ups its sophistication. Some bonuses: it comes with a cami for underneath, and it’s finished with a scalloped edge at the hem, so it’s fabulous untucked, too.

Many details together on a blouse could be overwhelming for petite proportions, but when they are all in a single color, such as they are here, it can work quite well.  The standup lace at the color and vertical details create a visually elongating effect for the upper body, too.

Another option with lace placed stripewise on the vertical, done in a minimal, modern way I quite like.

I am completely crazypants for this cozy lacy sweatshirt.

This swingy tunic sweater comes in a few colors. This mossy green is my hands down favorite.
